The unmatched genius Mozart is definitely the most well known musician of all times. The person Mozart is still mysterious. His emotional life has left many traces in the Salzkammergut, in Salzburg county - Salzburg and in Chiemgau. This cycle tour has a lot to offer: the sporting experience, culture and history make your holiday to an unforgettable adventure. The route is signposted as Mozart cycle path. Our 5 day tour takes you round Salzburg to big and smaller stations of his life. Starting from the town Salzburg you use mostly flat, partly hilly cycle paths and side roads, there is only one longer ascent (200m altitude difference) between Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden.
ROUTING:
1st day: Individual arrival at the Wolfgangsee and your accommodation. Handover of the travel documents. Overnight stay in a village at the Wolfgangsee.
2nd day: Route: St.Gilgen -Mondsee - Thalgau / Distance: approx. 30 km
The Mozart cycle path starts in the Mozart village St.Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozarts mother Anna Maria. Over the Scharfling you reach Mondsee. Cycle along the shore to St. Lorenzen, further towards Thalgau Overnight stay Thalgau.
3rd day: Route: Thalgau - Wallersee - Mattsee - Salzburg / Distance: approx. 40 km
From Thalgau further to Unzing by Eugendorf, then cycle along the idyllic Mozart cycle path past NeumarkWallersee (optional visit of the cheese production Schleedorf). Further to Mattsee (visit of the abbey anBajuwaren open air exhibition) and along the Obertrumer lake to Obertrum. From Anthering along thSalzach river, on which Mozart travelled to Passau and Vienna by boat and finally reach Salzburg. Overnight in Salzburg or in the area of Salzburg (within 12 km).
4th day: Route: Salzburg - Bad Reichenhall - Berchtesgaden - Salzburg / Distance: approx. 69 km
On the Tauern cycle path your journey leads you further via Narzoll to Bad Reichenhall, where Mozart often rested on his travels to the south. The next stop on the Mozart cycle path is Berchtesgaden. Along the foot of the mountain Untersberg the route leads you to Schloss Hellbrunn with its famous trick fountains and the Hellbrunner alley takes you directly into Salzburg old town. Overnight in Salzburg or in the area of Salzburg (within 12 km).
5th day: Salzburg - Eugendorf - Thalgau / Distance: approx. 26 km
On the Mozart cycle path further to Maria Plain, there the so called "Krönungsmesse" was first performed in Mozart's pilgrimage church. Cycle along the former Ischler Bahn train line towards Eugendorf and further Thalgau. Overnight stay in Thalgau.
6th day: Thalgau – Mondsee - St. Gilgen / Distance: approx. 23 km
Clearing the Scharfling is the last big effort - light incline to the Wolfgangsee. You are now back at the starting point of your tour in St.Gilgen and your accommodation. Overnigth stay at the Wolfgangsee.
7th day: Individual departure or additional nights can be booked.
