The Salzkammergut appears to be from a picture book. Full of nature with its gifts and with multiple gastronomy-, leisure-, entertainment-, sport-, traditional- and cultural facilities. Here no holiday wishes stay unfulfilled!
By one of the 76 lakes of the region with crystal clear water, in the magnificent mountain world with the lush alpine pastures or the bizarre rock formations of the up to 3000m high Dachstein range, in the cultural centres like Gmunden, St. Wolfgang or the Kaiser town Bad Ischl. For your tour we would like to suggest this probably most beautiful place on earth!
General information: The cycle tours don't have any technical difficulties, there are only very few ascents! Some physical fitness and stamina are necessary though as well as cycle equipment like trainers, rucksack, sun- and rain protection, comfortable sports cloths, jacket, jumper aso. The routes can easily be road on with trekking bikes - mostly they are asphalted cycle paths, a few stretches are gravel and forest paths. Should you want to spend a day more relaxingly, you can cover the stretch by public transport like bus, train or boat.
Routing:
1. day: Arrival in Bad Ischl.
In our service center, located in Bad Ischl you will get the informational report and your travel documents (possible every day till 7 p.m.). Overnight stay in Bad Ischl.
2. day:
Start from Bad Ischl in the direction of Ebensee, along the river Traun - in Mitterweißenbach you turn left into the valley Weißenbachtal. Through shady forests at first up hill. Then you pass the gorge Weißenbachklamm with the picturesque chapel. In the village Weißenbach you reach the Attersee. Cycle right in the direction of Weyregg, along the B152 and round the Attersee - to Unterach. Distance: approx. 57,5km, difference in altitude approx. 465 - 533m
3. day:
Cycle from the village Unterach via Oberaschau to Lake Mondsee. In Mondsee don't miss visiting the beautiful collegiate church. Along the right shore - and the Drachenwand, Fuschler Aache stream, St. Lorenz - Plomberg - turn right in Scharfling (short ascent on high-pass Scharflingpass) towards St.Gilgen, along the Krottensee and further to Abersee. Distance: approx. 45km, incline: approx. 720m
4. day:
This day is a little more relaxing - enjoy the beautiful landscape round the Wolfgangsee. Departure in Abersee along the cycle path to Fürberg. From there to Ried / school center "Ferienhort" by boat - go along the lake to St. Wolfgang. We suggest a walk through the lively village with its attractions (pilgrimage church, the famous "Weisses Rössl",...). Further along the cycle path to Schwarzenbach, Strobl / Weißenbach. Distance: approx. 29 km.
5. day:
From Weißenbach by Strobl towards Bad Ischl. Through Bad Ischl and then along the cycle path to Ebensee. There you will reach the Traunsee. Enjoy the view over the lake and the Traunstein! From Traunkirchen further to Altmünster and Gmunden. Further over the Traunstein road and the Traunbridge (below the Traunstein) to the Gasthof "Hoisn" - boat trip to Ebensee. From Ebensee back to Bad Ischl. Go through the town of Bad Ischl to the Esplanade, along it to Kaltenbach (Katrin cable car) - on the cycle path upstream the river Traun to Bad Goisern. Distance: approx. 69km
6. day: From Bad Goisern to lake Hallstättersee - on the eastern lake side to Obertraun. We suggest a visit of the world heritage village Hallstatt. In Winkel turn right towards Dachsteinhof, Brand, Reith, to the cave Koppenbrüllerhöhle - in the shady Koppental valley you cycle to the Koppentretalm and after a steep incline the hight-pass Koppenpass takes you to Bad Aussee. Distance: approx. 35km, difference in altitude: approx. 480m - 510m
7. day:
From Bad Aussee to Altaussee - from the inn Gasthof Berndl in to the Blaa Alm - then on a gravel track to Ischl - through the romantic Rettenbachtal valley along the brine pipeline, wonderful nature along the river till the Rettenbachalm - further along the gravel road towards Bad Ischl. Distance: approx. 31km, incline: approx. -900m
8. day: Individual departure or additional nights can be booked.
