The city was under the Polish rule for a long time. Lviv is an important religious center in Ukraine. The Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater is one of the most beautiful and famous sights in Lviv. There are many museums and art galleries in Lviv, best of them are the National Gallery, Museum of Religion (formerly Museum of Atheism) and National Museum (formerly Museum of Industry). Lviv is one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine with unique architecture dating back to the 13th century and picturesque landscapes. In this city every gateway, every window-sill and yard is a masterpiece and can be considered as a sight. Its architecture reflects various European styles and directions from different historic periods. Lviv is probably the most romantic city in Ukraine.
